Bishopwearmouth Garden Centre & Tearoom is situated on Chester Road one mile from Sunderland City Centre on the A183, the site and Grade two listed Lodge House was designed by built by Thomas Moore in 1856. The site has two carparks and changing places toilet facilities which include a shower & hoist.


Garden Centre

In addition to sound Horticultural advice from our qualified staff, the Garden Centre provides a wide range of seasonal bedding plants including indoor and outdoor plants, compost, pet care, bird care, pots, garden furniture, planters, statues, paving, coloured gravel, fertilisers and garden sundries. We also undertake a refill service for hanging basket and planters.
The Garden Centre offers a florist service for all occasions including weddings, funerals and corporate events.
Our Christmas gift shop is open from late October through to December offering a wide range of decorations, lights, wreaths and gifts.


Tearoom

Situated in the former Grade two listed Lodge house, the tearoom provides a full range of home baked cakes, pies, fresh cream cakes, quiches, including vegetarian and vegan options. Afternoon teas and Sunday lunches can be booked in advance giving 24 hours’ notice. Afternoon tea gift vouchers are also available.
Our upstairs boardroom style function room which does not have disabled access is ideal for those who wish to have a small private gathering of up to twelve people.  
The secluded walled garden provides a large seating area with cushions and parasols, this makes it an ideal place to relax.
Dogs are welcome inside and out the tearoom.

Day Care (Sunderland Council)

Bishopwearmouth Horticultural Nursery is a unique non-traditional day service offered by Sunderland Council providing therapy, learning and work-based opportunities for adults with disabilities mental health needs and older people. 
With the support of trained staff, people are offered a wide choice of activities within Horticulture, Catering, Retail and Landscaping.
