Day Care (Sunderland Council)

Bishopwearmouth Horticultural Nursery is a unique non-traditional day service offered by Sunderland Council providing therapy, learning and work-based opportunities for adults with disabilities mental health needs and older people.

With the support of trained staff, people are offered a wide choice of activities within Horticulture, Catering, Retail and Landscaping.

The Day Care service is for people aged 18 years and over and who live in the north-east area. People can access the service using their own finances or through using individual budgets. The current day care standard charge is £52.51 per day (6 hours), half days are also available.

For those people who are unable to move into employment or voluntary roles Bishopwearmouth Nursery provides a supportive environment where people can socialise, gain confidence, develop their skills and friendships, enabling people not only to gain new interests but to also share experiences with others.

Bishopwearmouth Nursery assists people to integrate into the wider community by undertaking a number of community projects and providing services to the local community.

Access to service is via a care assessment. An individual support plan will then be agreed with the person to detail how Bishopwearmouth Nursery will meet their objectives. The placement will be reviewed after six weeks then annually.
